On Hiatus

Well Kindle-ites….

It’s that time again. That time of year where I bid you all a quick adieu and evaporate into that great white mist known as a hiatus. But, unlike last year (when my hiatus consisted of me doing nothing more than sitting at home, eating bon-bons, and watching really crappy daytime TV) this year hubs and I are actually taking a vacation. (Cue confetti.) That’s right!!! Now that both of my children are old enough to spend the entire week (self-sufficiently) at their grandma’s house, hubs and I have decided we need a break. (It’ll be 10 years this September since our last one.)

So why the official “hiatus” post if I’m only going to be gone for a week? Simple…I might only be gone (physically) for a week, but I need a break. As much as I love writing reviews, I have to re-charge. I want to keep my writing style fresh and entertaining. That isn’t going to happen if I don’t take a step back once in a while. So I’m going to read a little for pleasure. I’m going to work on my current anthology. I’m going to spend some time with my kiddos before they both go back to school. I am going to make myself miss you! Because missing y’all is the best medicine my blog can get.

But…I don’t want to leave y’all hanging for a whole month (yes…I said month. I’ll be back the end of August.) without resources. So I’ve decided to let some of my fellow bloggers take the wheel. They don’t actually know this yet, but they will when y’all start stopping by.

To date, I have 1 post pre-scheduled. It is the ONLY post that I have pre-schedule while on break at it will remain that way. (Wow…that sounded much harsher than I intended it to.) But I don’t want y’all to be information-less, so here are a few blogs that can help you out with a few of my standard post.

Tuesday Newbies

My Bookish Ways – The lovely Kristen over at MBW has a running (monthly) list of SF/Horror/Fantasy and Mystery releases on her blog. Much like mine, they  are broken down into weeks.

YA Book Crush – Erin over at YABC has a weekly (Tuesday) post of all the new YA books to hit the shelves.

RT Book Reviews – The awesome team over at RTBR is your leader in Romance. Their “Upcoming Releases” page lists notables up to 3 weeks out, and in several different “categories” of romance.

Fantasy Book Critic – This team is obsessed with, well…Fantasy! (duh) Their release page covers MONTHS of upcoming novels for your enjoyment.

Waiting on Wednesday

WoW is a major blog meme hosted by Breaking The Spine. You can stop by there and get a list of the HUNDREDS of blogs that participate.

Freebies

If I had to guess, this is the one y’all will probably miss the most. So here are 2 sites that list free books DAILY.

Top 100 – Anthony usually lists about 20 new FREE kindle books a day in ALL genres.

Hundred Zeros – This pages is exactly what it proclaims to be. A site with hundreds of zero dollar kindle downloads. The only thing I’ll warn you about with this site is… it’s not always updated. Which means, even though NEW free books pop up everyday, sometimes books that are no longer free don’t drop off. Just keep your eyes open.

I think that is about it. Like I said, I’ll be back the end of August nice an refreshed and ready to bombard you with book goodness. I’ll miss all of you, and can’t wait to chat when I get back.

Mucho love!

About Misty

Your friendly neighborhood narcissist. I'm sarcastic, cynical and a bit cranky. I own a soap box so big that sometimes I have difficulty stepping down off of it, and I'm about 94% certain I have multiple personalities. I don't sleep enough, and I read more than any person should ever consider normal. I have anger management issues, especially when I'm stuck in traffic and I have an unhealthy obsession with my Kindle. I am a vampire lovin', zombie obsessed, book-in-hand, iPod freak. You either love me or hate me. You be the judge.

  1. Sometimes a hiatus is the best thing a blogger can do to when it comes to revitalizing. I ended up taking a really long one at the beginning of this year, feeling burnt out on reviewing and constantly trying to add content and feeling like what I had to read was dictated more by my ARC list than what I actually wanted to read at the moment. Taking a break made things so much better when I came back, and I no longer feel so constrained when it comes to blogging.

Have fun on your vacation, and I’ll see you when you return to the wild lands of the Internet!
