Heather Lyons is known for writing epic, heartfelt love stories often with a fantastical twist. From Young Adult to New Adult to Adult novels—one commonality in all her books is the touching, and sometimes heart-wrenching, romance. In addition to writing, she’s also been an archaeologist and a teacher. She and her husband and children live in sunny Southern California and are currently working their way through every cupcakery she can find.

On your nightstand now: Yes Please by Amy Poehler and Chasers of The Light by Tyler Knott Gregson

Favorite book when you were a child: A three-way tie between Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Secret Garden and A Little Princess by Francis Hodgson Burnett. I’ll also admit to being obsessed with the Sweet Valley High series.

Your top five authors: Jane Austen, Kristin Cashore, Alexander McCall Smith, Stephanie Perkins, and Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child (who co-write a bunch of books)

Book you’ve faked reading: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I’ve tried, honestly I have. I’ve tried five times and I just can’t get through the first half of the first book. A lot of friends have been disappointed in this, so I’ve just stopped readily admitting it. Haha!

Book you’re an evangelist for: Fire by Kristin Cashore. I love that book so hard, and have pushed it on so many people.

Book that changed your life: Oh gosh. Hrm. Maybe The Hobbitt by Tolkien? I read that book so many times as a kid. Had the album, listened to it religiously. The scope of imagination in it, for a kid in early elementary school, was astounding. It helped set me on the path for a life-long love of fantasy.

Favorite line from a book: Well, it’s more like a favorite line from a poem. I’ve always been an e.e. cummings fangirl, and since feeling is first is one of my favorites. “for life’s not a paragraph / And death i think is no parenthesis” is such an amazing pair of lines.

Which character you most relate to: Of my characters? It’s going to sound weird, but probably Chloe Lilywhite from my Fate series.

Book you most want to read again for the first time: Persuasion by Jane Austen. Goodness, do I love that book.

Tell me about YOUR book:  The Hidden Library is the second book in the Collectors’ Society series. In the first book, The Collectors’ Society, we meet a very grown-up Alice from the Wonderland books as she joins a secretive society. In the second book, recently out, we get to learn more about her partner Finn’s backstory, as well as continue on their quest to hunt down the villains who are destroying Timelines. It was a ton of fun to write, and the series as a whole is my love letter to classic literature.

READ MY REVIEW

“There is action as well as romance. Horror and well as racism. Comedy as well as a fair amount of self deprecation. “The Hidden Library” makes no exceptions and takes no prisoners. ESPECIALLY in the last chapter. And the villains (once a bit of an afterthought) ultimately CONTROL the flow of this novel, and THAT ALONE makes it one hell of an interesting ride. ”

Secrets, they come to find, can reveal the deadliest of truths.
