A 3 Year Wait…. Scare Crow Cover Reveal + Giveaway

Please excuse me for a minute while I freak out. (*runs around house screaming like a loon* *stops, takes deep breath, counts to ten, returns to computer*) Have you ever completely given up hope on something? Something you were really really obsessed with? Something you talked animatedly about on a daily basis? No? Ok…so apparently you have stronger willpower than me. *high five* Because I have. In September of 2012 I read a book titled “Crow’s Row” by Julie Hockley. It was AMAZING!!! (You can read my review HERE.) After reading this book I became inexplicably obsessed with it. (That’s code for…I told EVERYONE to read it, and got horribly irate when they said, “yeah, sure…I’ll add it to my TBR.” Because I wanted them to read it RIGHT NOW!!! Duh.) The book ended horrifically. I’m talking the mother of all cliffhangers. (Which we all know are evil.) Anywho… like any good fangirl I decided to follow Julie on Twitter and Facebook. (To keep up with sequel updates.) After about 6 months I found her updates made me more angry than happy. “I have hit a snag, Scare Crow is delayed.” “Still not done…don’t have a release date for you.” “I don’t see this book being finished anytime in the foreseeable future.” (You see where I’m going with this?) So I stopped following her. (Or at the very least blocked her updates from filling up my feed.) I was heartbroken, and the more I read her updates, the sadder I got. So I developed a theory…eventually this book would come out…eventually I would read it. Out of sight, out of mind. Repair your wounded heart and move on! Yada yada. So I did. And though I never really forgot, I wasn’t bombarded once a week with bad news. Years passed. Yes.. YEARS!!!!! (Crow’s Row was published in 2011!) And nothing. Then one bright shiny day I got a message from a friend. Nothing complicated, just a picture from her FB feed. The picture? An update from Julie asking bloggers to sign up for the “Scare Crow” cover reveal. Needless to say…I jumped on it. Like a starving kid on a donut. After a 3 year wait hope had finally been restored. There was a book. A cover. A release date. And it was JUST AROUND the corner. Which FINALLY brings us to this post. The cover reveal for both the reimagining of Crow’s Row, but also the first look at it’s beautiful sequel Scare Crow. *wipes tears from eyes* Isn’t it just….ugh!?

So sit back for a second, take it all in. And when you are done…read the teaser at the bottom and then sign up for the giveaway.

Oh..you haven’t read Crow’s Row??? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

For college student Emily Sheppard, the thought of spending a summer alone in New York is much more preferable than spending it in France with her parents. Just completing her freshman year at Callister University, Emily faces a quiet summer in the city slums, supporting herself by working at the campus library.

During one of her jogs through the nearby cemetery while visiting her brother Bill’s grave, Emily witnesses a brutal killing—and then she blacks out. When Emily regains consciousness, she realizes she’s been kidnapped by a young crime boss and his gang. She is hurled into a secret underworld, wondering why she is still alive and for how long.

Held captive in rural Vermont, she tries to make sense of her situation and what it means. While uncovering secrets about her brother and his untimely death, Emily falls in love with her very rich and very dangerous captor, twenty-six year- old Cameron. She understands it’s a forbidden love and one that won’t allow her to return to her previous life. But love may not be enough to save Emily when no one even knows she is missing.

Nineteen-year-old Emily Sheppard is losing her sanity.

Ever since her mob king boyfriend, Cameron Hillard, abandoned her for her own good, Emmy has been attempting to move on with her charmed college student life as if nothing happened. Now rejected from the underworld and left grieving over Cameron’s alleged death, Emmy realizes she belongs nowhere. Worse yet, she is now keeping a dangerous secret. After just a short time with Emily, Cameron has lost control over his world. As he miserably attempts to return to what is left of his life and unravel the mess he has made of the underworld, Emily’s hate turns to desperation. She needs to kill the kingpins responsible for Cameron’s death before they come looking for her. As Cameron secretly observes Emily, he has no idea of the danger he has placed her in—or that it may already be too late for him to save her.

Scare Crow is a tale of revenge, terror, and love as Emmy and Cameron embark on separate journeys to face enemies, correct past mistakes, and…..find their way to their destinies.

A former germaphobe and clean-freak turned mother of two, Julie collects enough tears and snot in a month to recreate Slimer Monster from Ghostbusters. Other than playing devoted wife and mama, Julie is the funniest person in the room (according to the 3 year-old and 2 year-old in said room) and can build the most awesome Lego rocket ship you’ve ever set your eyes on (according to her). Oh, and she has a full time career and has also written a bestselling novel. Superhero, or just downright insane?

  1. I saw the link this morning and thought of you….I just haven’t had a chance to send it over yet. Glad someone did. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO glad to know that I’m not the only one who had these feelings towards this situation. This post EXACTLY summed up every feeling I’ve had in relation to this series.

Seriously – I am ridiculously excited for this book! Just TWO MORE WEEKS! Finally! Will you be re-reading Crow’s Row prior to the release? Even though I still remember quite vividly how this book ended (how could you not?!) I am thinking I might just to get in the right frame of mind for the sequel.

    1. #1 – no, I haven’t read Consequences yet (though several people have told me to.)

#2 – I’m glad I wasn’t the only one frustrated by the whole “sequel” situation. I got so angry every time I read one of updates, it was unhealthy.

#3 – yes, I’m gonna reread it. I have to! I remember the story, but it’s also been 3 years! I’m sure there are tons of tiny yet significant things I’ve forgotten. Plus, I need to get back to that emotional place before I start Scare Crow or I have a feeling I’ll just be disappointed because I’ll be obsessing about what I don’t remember or how I felt when reading it’s predecessor. Make sense?

    2. Makes sense. I am kind of leaning that way as well. Plus – I kind of just want to go back and read Cam and Emmy’s story again for the heck of it. *sigh* I’ve waited this long, but now that it’s so close to being released I’m even more anxious.

And yes – you should read Consequences. I loved the series!

      1. Now I HAVE to reread it. I just went back and read my review of Crow’s Row (to see what I said about Stockholm S.) and damn! I convinced myself again of it’s total awesomeness. (I’m so humble.) I realize how passionate I was. I want that back.

And ok, moving Consequences up on TBR.

  2. (BTW – I read your review for Crow’s Row and you talk about Stockholm Syndrome – have you read the Consequences series by Aleatha Romig?)

  3. I love these covers. And I have to tell you both I’m enjoying my re-read. It’s nice to go back to The Farm.

  4. As part of the EVERYONE you told to read and did, I have been waiting YEARS for this book too. Then when I saw today’s date, I thought this better not be an April Fools Day joke. If it had I may have hurt someone…or at least yelled. I am now an 8 month pregnant woman. Needless to say I am glad to see the cover and I am so excited to read Scare Crow. It will give me something to read while I wait for baby girl’s arrival.

    1. Awwwwwww…. Congrats Mommy!!! 🙂 Also, I would never have done that. We’ve been waiting too long for that announcement, faking it would have been cruel. And I probably would have gotten shanked. 😉

  5. O M G Finally!!! I was obsessed like you and Loved Scare Crow so so soo much and I also didn’t believe we would ever get the sequel, now I’m even more excited for it! Love the new covers – but also found the old style very fitting:)
