|“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.|
Publication Date: March 18th, 2014
Evalyn Ibarra never expected to be an accused killer and experimental prison test subject. A year ago, she was a normal college student. Now she’s been sentenced to a month in the compass room—an advanced prison obstacle course designed by the government to execute justice.
If she survives, the world will know she’s innocent.
Locked up with nine notorious and potentially psychotic criminals, Evalyn must fight the prison and dismantle her past to stay alive. But the system prized for accuracy appears to be killing at random.
She doesn’t plan on making friends.
She doesn’t plan on falling in love, either.
4 words: Experimental Prison Test Subject.
Need I say more?
Ugh… ok, if you insist. How about we talk a little about the fact that this sounds like a toned down NA version of Saw. No, really…think about it. Obstacle courses designed by the government (well, that’s not so Saw like) to EXECUTE (I don’t think they mean “carry out”) justice. If she SURVIVES she’s proven innocent? Yeah, all it’s missing is a creepy clown mask and some maniacal chuckling. Also, there 9 notorious (anyone else think the word notorious is suspiciously ominous?) PSYCHOTIC (nothing cryptic about that word) criminals the she must fight. No, better yet… DISMANTLE! (WTF!) to stay alive. Now that is a party I want to go to. Yeah, not really…but I’d happily watch from the sidelines. (Hmm…that made ME sound psychotic.) Anywho… THIS is what I am waiting on.
What are YOU waiting for?
