Charlotte Westing is an Oracle. For all the good that does her. These days, instead of using their powers, the Oracles fight them. And Charlotte knows the price of breaking the rules: she sees it every day in her mother’s wheelchair and the absence of her father. But when a vision of a classmate’s death overcomes her defenses, Charlotte is torn. Follow the rules? Or risk everything–even her sanity–to fight the serial killer who has set up residence in her town.

Minority Report meets Inception in this dark paranormal thriller from #1 New York Times Bestselling author Aprilynne Pike

Teaser:

“Tell me the rules,” she says.
I stare at her, not sure why I have to do this here, but I start to recite anyway. “Never reveal that you are an Oracle to anyone except another Oracle.”
“Good. Two?”
“Fight your visions with all your strength. Never surrender. Never give up. Don’t close your eyes.”
“Three?”
“Never, under any circumstances, change the future.” Sierra nods and a single tear shines on her cheek.
Then I understand.
I did this. Daddy is dead because I didn’t follow the rules. I bury my face in my aunt’s shirt and start to sob.

Everyone likes a good Oracle story right? Why should I be the exception? Cards on the table…my household is a bit Oracle obsessed. Ever since The Matrix came out (where do you think we got my daughters name) we have established an “anything is possible” “people can totally predict the future” attitude, so “Sleep No More” seems to fit into my daily routine quite nicely. Also… you can’t deny that that whole “daddy is dead” line is a little chilling. Forget the past, change the present, fight the future? Yes please! There is a 99% chance that this chick Charlotte is going to lose her ever loving mind, and I kinda want to be along for the ride. Anyways, THIS is what I am waiting for.

About Misty

Your friendly neighborhood narcissist. I'm sarcastic, cynical and a bit cranky. I own a soap box so big that sometimes I have difficulty stepping down off of it, and I'm about 94% certain I have multiple personalities. I don't sleep enough, and I read more than any person should ever consider normal. I have anger management issues, especially when I'm stuck in traffic and I have an unhealthy obsession with my Kindle. I am a vampire lovin', zombie obsessed, book-in-hand, iPod freak. You either love me or hate me. You be the judge.
