Kids Corner (+Giveaway)

kids-cornerMorning Kindle-Parents!

The last couple of books I’ve featured have been geared towards a younger audience so today I let Frick pick the book. And surprise surprise it was a CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE book involving pirates. (How cool is that!) Also, I cleaned out Frack’s bookshelf this week and instead of donating them to her school (like I usually do) I decided I’d give all of you a chance to win them. Anyways, on to the Frick & Frack show!

Thoughts From Frick & Frack

Choose Your Own Adventure  – brought to you by missing treasure and PIRATES!

Ok, before we talk about anything else it’s important to understand the age preference on this one. The recommendation states 3-8 years old. Frick is 8 so he is in right under the wire. Frack is 4 so she is just barely crossing the starting line. Both in the recommended wheelhouse though. So game on.

My thoughts? The “writing” aspect (not the adventure) was a little bland. While the art work is great and stimulates the imagination, the written story…not so much. Also, there are a few “choices” that send you back in the book (to a previous page) meaning you have to backtrack yourself (instead of the book doing it for you) in order to pick a different path to get to where you need to be. For ME this was a little annoying (even though I was amused at how well my son remembered every choice he made.) Frick however could have cared less. Go figure.

Speaking of Frick, when asked “What did you think?” His answer was a resounding: It was GREAT! He loved being able to “write his own story” (as he so eloquently put it.) Pushing the adventure tabs and “thinking things through”

“Through the window? That seems kinda dangerous. Let’s just climb up the rope and take our chances.”

“I can’t go up the stairs, that is going to lead to the Captains quarters. If I get caught that would be bad. Let’s hop down the hatch and see what happens.”

I have to say… I was impressed by his deductive reasoning skills. (Aka, I would have just gone up the stairs, held my breath and hoped.)

As for Frack. She just stuck out her tongue and mumbled something about mud. (Don’t ask. I have no idea.) Which just goes to show you that age recs are not always right.

Overall, pretty interesting for my older (likes to take charge crowd) not so much for the girl who just wanted to see swords and eye patches.

The Giveaway!!

Like I said before, I cleaned out Frack’s shelves this week and I’m looking for a good home for some of her books. They vary in age range, so I decided to split them up into 3 different packs. #1 is the youngest. These books focus on shapes, numbers etc. #2 are general picture books. #3 also has picture books, but the actually stories are more involved (aka more words.) You are welcome to sign up for as many packs as you want. All you need to do is fill out the Rafflecopter form below. Good Luck!

  1. There are soooo many kids books out there today! Pippy’s Wish by Maddie Ryan, Sparkly Me by Ally Nathaniel, and Tea Time with Sophia Grace and Rosie by Sophia Grace Brownlee.

  2. I had collected huge library when my kids were small but because the house would have exploded, we slowly passed them to others. Now I am expecting my first grandbaby and will need to start re-building 🙂 Perfect timing!

  3. I just went through the 6yr olds books and gave her brother most of them (he’s younger than she is) she’s been trying to read everything since she figured out that letters make words lol I would love to win this for her >^.^<

  4. Also… For Fric and Frac.. I’d suggest for Frac the series of Biscuit the puppy, my 6 yr LOVED those books! for Fric.. I’d say The Mouse and the Motorcycle books. Those were my favs at his age >^.^<
