Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn’t leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own

One of the things I love about The Walking Dead is the swaying of one’s moral compass when their life (or something that will sustain it) is at risk. That is EXACTLY why this book captured my attention. We cannot live without water. Fact of life. And…if you are the only one around with water would YOU share it? Or keep it to yourself. I wish I could say I’d willingly pass the cup. (Look out Mother Theresa I’m after your title.) Unfortunately  I have a feeling I’d see Lynn’s side of things. Anyways…this is what I am waiting for.

What are YOU waiting for?

About Misty

Your friendly neighborhood narcissist. I'm sarcastic, cynical and a bit cranky. I own a soap box so big that sometimes I have difficulty stepping down off of it, and I'm about 94% certain I have multiple personalities. I don't sleep enough, and I read more than any person should ever consider normal. I have anger management issues, especially when I'm stuck in traffic and I have an unhealthy obsession with my Kindle. I am a vampire lovin', zombie obsessed, book-in-hand, iPod freak. You either love me or hate me. You be the judge.

  1. I can’t wait for this, I’m an environment student so I love YA books that deal with the issues that I study! This one sounds amazing and disturbingly realistic!
